Super Whiteface Sundays

The buy: Whiteface, the host mountain for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y., has special rates on various Sundays and Wednesdays this winter.

The savings: The Sunday rate is $35 and the Wednesday rate is $38, less than half of the usual $77 adult lift ticket.

The catch: Super Sunday rate is available Dec. 12, Jan. 2, Feb. 6, March 13 and April 3. To get the Wednesday deal, you must have a Coca-Cola product with you.

Why it's worth it: Whiteface features 86 trails and 1,045 metres of vertical, the most vertical east of the Rockies. It was recently named the No. 1 ski resort in the Eastern United States by readers of Ski Magazine.

Whistler lifts and lodging for less

The buy: You can enjoy a post-Olympics run at Whistler for less if you book early.

The savings: Up to 36 per cent, with lift and lodging packages starting $86 per person per night.

The catch: You must book by Nov . 15.

Why it's worth it: A heavy Pacific storm has already dropped 25 to 30 centimetres of snow at higher elevations. Meteorologists are calling for a La Niña weather cycle for the Pacific Northwest, meaning cooler temperatures and more snow than Whistler Blackcomb's annual average of more than 10 metres.

Family skiing in Banff

The buy: Lodges at Canmore, on the border of Banff National Park just 50 minutes from Calgary, has a ski/snowboarding package aimed at families from $396 per night.

The savings: $217, compared with buying the package elements separately.

The catch: The rate is higher at peak periods.

Why it's worth it: Package includes accommodation, two lift tickets for adults and two for children (aged 6 to 12) to a choice of nearby resorts – Banff Norquay, Sunshine or Lake Louise – and two large flatbread pizzas.

Panorama for $34 a day

The buy: Panorama Mountain Village in Invermere, B.C., is selling a four-day Snowcard that gives skiers and boarders lift tickets from an average of $34 a day.

The savings: Regular lift tickets are $77 a day.

The catch: You must buy it by Dec. 26. Blackout dates are Dec. 26 to Jan. 2 and Feb. 19 to 21.

Why it's worth it: If you like short lift lines and vast terrain, this is your place. The Snowcard is $134 for adults, $124 for youth and seniors, and $99 for juniors for four days. Once you have used up the four days, additional regularly priced lift tickets can be purchased for a $15 discount all season long.

Tremblant the easy way

The buy: UltimateSki.ca offers affordable ski/snowboard packages to Mont Tremblant via Porter Airlines flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

The savings: You save 10 hours of driving, and UltimateSki.ca guarantees the lowest price for a ski vacation to Tremblant.

The catch: The quick weekend getaway requires an early Saturday departure.

Why it's worth it: The Tremblant Escape gets you there by 9 a.m. Saturday, you ski Saturday and Sunday, and return to Toronto Sunday night. All-in round-trip prices start at $510 per person, plus $171.35 in taxes and fees.
