Mexican resort celebrates Day of the Dead by dropping rates 40%

The buy: Condo Hotels Playa del Carmen in Mexico’s Riviera Maya has special rates leading up to colourful Day of the Dead celebrations.

The savings: 40 per cent off regular rates that normally start at $160 a night; 50 per cent off any seven-night booking.

The catch: The special ends Nov. 3.

Why it’s worth it: The condos are in Playa del Carmen, where the streets will be filled with music, dancing, costumes and food. Nearby Xcaret, an eco-cultural family park 6.5 kilometres south of Playa del Carmen, also organizes a Life and Death festival with traditional food, art, music, contests and shows.

BOOK A CHEAP SEAT ON KLM

The buy: Dutch airline KLM has a worldwide seat sale from its Canadian gateways for travel from Oct. 16 to Dec. 14 and from Dec. 25 to May 6.

The savings: Up to $300.

The catch: You have to book by Oct. 15 and Friday and Saturday flights cost an extra $30 each way.

Why it’s worth it: You can fly from Toronto to Rome return for $845, including tax. You can fly to London or Berlin for $849, to Dubai or Delhi for $1,149 and Johannesburg or Nairobi for $1,299 among others. You can also stop over in Amsterdam for no extra charge.

TEE OFF ONE MORE TIME IN B.C.

The buy: The Okanagan Valley’s Predator Ridge golf resort is staying open for an extra week at a lower rate of $59 a round.

The savings: Up to 50 per cent.

The catch: The rate is available only Oct. 11 to 17.

Why it’s worth it: The resort’s Ridge Course has been named the best new course in Canada for 2010 by SCOREGolf and the Predator Course has hosted the Skins Game twice. The price includes cart, GPS and practice facility with range balls. A Stay & Play package with overnight in a studio unit and round of golf starts at $118.50.

START YOUR CURAÇAO HOLIDAY IN STYLE

The buy: Air Canada Vacations is cutting the cost of flying Executive Class on Air Canada’s new weekly, non-stop service to Curaçao International Airport from Toronto starting Saturday, Dec. 24.

The savings: The $299 round-trip upgrade is offered for $149.

The catch: You have to book an air and hotel package by Oct. 3.

Why it’s worth it: Air Canada Vacations is offering promotional air and hotel rates to launch the new service with one week at the Hilton Curaçao starting from $1,319; the Lodge Kura Hulanda & Beach Club from $1,189; the Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa & Marina from $1,659; and the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino from $1,619.
