AT THE AIRPORT: Canada’s best takeoff spot
Let’s hear it for Vancouver International. Not only was the airport named the best in North America in the annual Skytrax awards, the Fairmont Vancouver Airport was named the continent’s best airport hotel. Worldwide, Hong Kong International was named airport of the year. The city also won for best airport hotel (the Regal Airport) and best airport dining. The results are based on more than 11 million survey questionnaires completed by airline passengers from more than 100 countries.
IN THE AIR: Drink this and keep flying
Airline and travel accidents have drawn attention to the problem of sleep-deprived workers, says a pitch from the makers of energy drink EBoost. The company cites demanding schedules and understaffing as causes of the problem. So are airlines moving to give employees more time off? Seems not. Instead, Virgin Atlantic, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and airports across the U.S. are now handing out free packages of the drink. That means we can all sleep better at night. Right?
ON THE GROUND: The sour sightseer
Brits are the world’s worst tourists. They say so themselves. In a survey by Skyscanner (a flight price comparison website), Brits gave themselves top place in nearly every category, including not learning the local language, being drunk and disorderly, not trying the local food and drink and cheap tips. On a regional basis, Londoners were picked as the worst of the worst. The award for rudeness, however, went to the Russians, with Germans and Americans in second and third place.
