Mere days after the London Olympics, at which he was an official ambassador for Team GB, Prince Harry hit the Las Vegas strip for some downtime with his best friend, Tom (Skippy) Inskip. Earlier this year, I had the occasion to travel in the Prince’s official entourage on his tour of Jamaica, and can attest to the ever-slippery slope between Public Harry and Private Harry. Everywhere we went, his modus operandi was the same: He would focus on one or two civilians and pretend they were old school chums sitting alone in a pub. But the party-loving bachelor-at-large clearly has an affinity for Sin City. Here then, some of Harry’s haunts, both on and off duty:
Wynn Las Vegas
By now most everyone with a browser open has seen the photos of Prince Harry cupping his crown jewels in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. New York Daily News reported that the Prince and his entourage met a group of young women at a bar and invited them to Harry’s $800-a-night suite at the Wynn Las Vegas, a cheeky game of strip billiards ensued, and apparently everyone – including our bonny Prince – lost. Like a scene out of The Hangover, the leaked photos (first published by by the website TMZ) show the Queen’s grandson cavorting stark naked around a pool table with some equally naked women. Officials at Clarence House have confirmed the pictures are genuine but refused to comment.
XS Nightclub Pool, Encore
Having already beaten the world’s fastest man on Usain Bolt’s own turf in Jamaica – albeit in mock circumstances, now Prince Harry can lay claim to an equally dubious win after racing Olympian Ryan Lochte at Encore’s XS nightclub pool. Lochte, who was in Sin City celebrating his 28th birthday, crossed paths with the Prince of Wales and after a few drinks, the wild Windsor challenged the Olympian to an impromptu race. Apparently the finish line was a girl in a very skimpy bikini.
Wet Republic, MGM Grand
On Saturday, the Prince danced around sporting red swim trunks and a white fedora at MGM Grand’s Wet Republic pool party, hosted by Jennifer Lopez. It’s not often that the former American Idol judge gets upstaged, but she didn’t seem to mind as she blew the Prince a kiss. Later, he was spotted in one of the club’s a $1,500-a-day poolside bungalows. Wet Republic hosts raucous alcohol-fuelled parties that attract up to 1,600 revellers to its two giant saltwater pools.
Devon House, Kingston, Jamaica
On his first solo diplomatic tour to celebrate his grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee, the Prince turned what should have been a strained meeting with Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller into “date night.” Part schoolboy, part trained operative, the Prince diffused any potential chill with PM with his melt-worthy smile, embracing her, then kissing her cheeks – at one point, they even held hands while whispering tête-à-tete. Harry turned to the circling photographers and joked, “My date for tonight.”
Sandals Cay, Montego Bay
The Prince wrapped up his royal itinerary at an intimate party on a private island off the coast of Montego Bay. At the party, I get a chance to ask him if he has been in touch with his brother while travelling in the Caribbean. After all, he has been working without a safety net here, no senior family member to fill in awkward pauses at state dinners. “We’re texting quite often,” he says. “It’s kind of great to get those bursts of support.” The wee island is a quick ferry ride from Sandals Royal Caribbean Montego Bay, offers a Thai restaurant, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a secluded beach. The island caters to couples who crave that marooned-on-a-deserted-island day trip.
Half Moon, A RockResort, Montego Bay, Jamaica
The Windsors are known to be a work-hard, play-hard family, but even they need rest and relaxation. The Prince Harry proved no exception when he requested to stay at Half Moon, unwinding in a fully staffed villa with a private pool. The Royal Family’s association with the resort dates back to 1966, with visits from Prince Charles, the Queen and Prince Philip, Princess Margaret and Princess Anne.Report Typo/Error
