Canadian small-group tour company G Adventures is joining forces with National Geographic Travel to offer new "experiential" trips. Trips, they say, that will allow travellers to make meaningful human connections around the world.

Called National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures, the getaways will give travellers time to hang out with locals, and include experiences such as sharing a meal in a family home in Jaipur, India, or perhaps learning the trade of a traditional weaver in Ecuador, or even going behind the scenes of a sea turtle conservancy in Costa Rica.

G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip and Gary Knell, president and chief executive of the National Geographic Society, made the announcement this week during the 25th anniversary celebration for the Canadian tour company.

G will also be expanding into the ever-popular river cruise market. The company will now steer ships with 16 to 48 passengers down the Ganges, the Mekong and the waterways of Burgundy, France, and continue to explore the Amazon River.

In Africa, G travellers who need to share their safari photos moments after they're snapped are in luck. The company announced it has designed its own overland tour vehicle – WiFi enabled with USB-recharging plugs in every seat. The new vehicle has better safety features, on-board fridges and a large water tank to cut down on plastic water bottle waste. Called the Lando, it's expected to be on the road by spring 2016.
