GO GOLD DOWN UNDER

The buy: Great Southern Rail is offering a free upgrade on select cross-country rail journeys in Australia.

The savings: Up to $700 a person.

The catch: You have to book by July 31 for travel through Dec. 31.

Why it's worth it: Gold Twin cabins come with a three-seat lounge that converts to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Each twin cabin has its own toilet and shower. Meals are included and served in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant Carriage.

LATE SEPTEMBER SAIL

The buy: Cruceros Australis has a sale on three early departures of next season's cruises through Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego between Punta Arenas, Chile, and Ushuaia, Argentina.

The savings: Cruise fares start at $944 a person, a 30-per-cent discount.

The catch: You have to book by June 30 and sail in late September.

Why it's worth it: You cruise through the Beagle Channel and around Cape Horn to visit one of the most pristine parts of the planet with all excursions, food and drinks included. Plus, Chilean and Argentinian wines are served at dinner.

TRANSATLANTIC SAVINGS

The buy: To commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Cunard Line is offering savings on select seven-day transatlantic crossings aboard flagship Queen Mary 2 with fares starting at $795.

The savings: In addition to the reduced fares, there is a complimentary double upgrade and up to $150 in onboard credits.

The catch: You have to book by June 7 and sail eastbound from New York to Southampton.

Why it's worth it: It's the best way to cross the Atlantic without jetlag, and it's hard to imagine a more British ambience than sailing on a Cunard ship.

THEME PARK DISCOUNTS

The buy: To highlight three of the state's biggest attractions, Visit California has launched a special edition of its Fun Spots promotion.

The savings: From 15 to 50 per cent.

The catch: You have to download coupons to take advantage of the offers.

Why it's worth it: SeaWorld San Diego and Los Angeles's Universal Studios unveiled major enhancements this summer. Discounts include: buy one day and get a second day free at Universal Studios Hollywood; adults pay the children's rate to visit Sea World San Diego.
