Hot Scottsdale

The buy: Rates at top Scottsdale resorts drop as the temperature rises from U.S. Memorial Day at the end of May to Labour Day.

The savings: Up to 60 per cent.

The catch: It is seriously hot in the middle of the day.

Why it's worth it: You can lounge poolside at five-star Fairmont Scottsdale Princess for $179 (U.S.) a night with a Sip, Savor & Splash package, which includes a $50 resort dining credit. Boulders Resort has a Romance Package with accommodation in a casita, complimentary sparkling wine or cider and daily breakfast for two for $199 a night. Montelucia Resort & Spa's Taste of Montelucia package includes a $50 dining credit at the poolside restaurant ROQ for $199 a night.

The ferry is free in B.C.

The buy: The Magnolia Hotel & Spa in

Victoria has a Ferry on Us package to get you to Vancouver Island.

The savings: A $150 credit to cover the ferry (with car) from Vancouver or to use in the hotel.

The catch: You have to book a two-night stay from $189 a night.

Why it's worth it: One block from the Inner Harbour and the B.C. capital's best restaurants, shops and entertainment, the 64-room property was named one of the Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Canada by TripAdvisor's 2012 Travelers' Choice awards. Breakfast is also included as are fresh fruits and bottled water in your room.

Flying to Fiji

The buy: Air Pacific, Fiji's international airline, has a Fiji Is In The Air promotion with roundtrip fare from Los Angeles to Nadi from $1,078 (U.S.) a person.

The savings: More than 20 per cent off the normal published fare of $1,357.

The catch: You have to book by May 31 for travel through Dec. 14 except for blackout dates from June 15 to Aug. 31.

Why it's worth it: With many airlines now flying nonstop to Australia and New Zealand from the West Coast or Honolulu, you don't see as many promotions to these islands.

Business class to Europe

The buy: LOT Polish Airlines has business class on sale from Toronto through March.

The savings: At least a couple of thousands dollars on normal business-class fares.

The catch: You have to be ticketed by March 31 for travel through Sept. 10.

Why it's worth it: With the sale, roundtrip fares including all taxes and fees range from $2,122 to $2,383 depending on the destination, which include Warsaw, Krakow, Kiev, Prague, Moscow, Bucharest, Stockholm, St. Petersburg, Budapest, Belgrade and Vienna.
