Patios

Your favourites

If the number of endorsements from Globe readers determined Canada's favourite patio, then the Flight Deck atop the Pilot (22 Cumberland Ave.) would easily take the honour.

Just two of your many comments:
"The perfect blend of business and pleasure. During cocktail hour you can rub elbows with Canada's advertising elite or wait until sundown for the always chipper birthday party crowd. But if you go down to the neighbourhood after midnight be ready for heels and hair. Trendy Rosedale/UofT kids have taken over the roof, and claimed it as their own. Much like their now wealthly parents did in their youth. The staff are polite and dependable it seems that no one ever leaves this place. All and all, it's your best bet for an unprententious Yorkville pint!" – Lisa Moroni

"The patio at The Pilot is one of the greatest in Toronto. Not only are you treated to a spectacular view of the Toronto skyline, but you are swept off your feet with speedy, courteous servers. It doesn't hurt that your servers are 'beautiful people,' as are your fellow patrons. On warm, summer nights the roof is open to the stars. If it happens to be a cool evening, the roll-out roof and patio heaters make it comfy cozy. A touch of heaven amidst the glass and concrete towers!" – Judi Charlton

Other Toronto mentions:

Remy's in Yorkville (115 Yorkville Ave.)
"It's spacious, has a DJ and a well-equipped bar. The service is always friendly. I like the fact that it's a rooftop patio and you can look down the beautiful Yorkville streets." – Amna Bakhtiar

Café Nervosa in Yorkville (Trattoria Nervosa, 75 Yorkville Ave.)
"One of my favourite summer patios used to be the roof at Café Nervosa in Yorkville…my wife and I still make it a priority to visit this great spot on every trip back to TO…we really do miss it." – Geoffrey Wright

Boo Radley's Junction Bar and Grill (1482 Dupont St.)
"A rare west end gem with trees and good pub food." – Kate Regan

The Oasis Patio atop Wayne Gretzky's (99 Blue Jays Way)
"An oasis in the middle of the city, complete with palm trees, oversized cozy couches, and even a multi-level waterfall, more akin to a sanctuary in the middle of the Mojave Desert, than a bar in the middle of Canada's greatest metropolis." – Amir Nayeri

The Black Bull Tavern on Queen Street (298 Queen St. W.)
"For atmosphere, location and service"

The Rex on Queen Street (194 Queen St. W.)
"Eclectic and fun"

Madison Avenue Pub (14 Madison Ave.)
"To see and be seen"

Whitlock's in the Beaches (1961 Queen St. E.)

Ottawa

Murray Street Kitchen (110 Murray St.)
"For a great afternoon lunch and brunch patio, check out Murray Street Kitchen's (110 Murray Street, Ottawa) backyard patio complete with cast-iron furnishings and grape vine décor." – Kyle Roerick

The Metropolitain Brasserie in Byward Market (700 Sussex Dr.)

Montreal

Aix La Terrasse in Old Montreal (711 Cote de la Place d'Armes)
"Aix La Terrasse is a fabulous rooftop terrasse located in the heart of Old Montreal. Part of the Hotel Place d'Armes, this terrasse boasts breathtaking views of the Notre Dame cathedral, the Montreal skyline (including, of course, the iconic Mont Royal) and the Jacques Cartier bridge. My favourite time to visit is during the after work '5 a 7' happy hour so I can catch the sun setting over the city from this amazing perspective. There is, in my opinion, no better way to appreciate the landmarks that define Montreal. Aside from the ambiance, my other favourite reason to visit Aix La Terrasse are the delicious raspberry mojitos. Tangy, served in a surprisingly generous glass and not overly expensive." – Kristin Gable

Le Saint-Sulpice in Montreal (1680 rue Saint-Denis)
"An important distinction, it's not a patio but a terrasse, even to its English-speaking customers. Not the terrasses in front of the building by the sidewalk, but the huge courtyard space hidden out behind. Surrounded by classic Montreal balconies and staircases and big leafy trees, plenty of tables, sunshine in the afternoon, a bubbling fountain to mask the noises of the city. A fabulous place for a drink on a hot, humid summer's day or night." – Karen Musgrove

Vancouver

Altitudes Bistro on Grouse Mountain
"The best patio in Vancouver is the Altitudes Bistro patio up on Grouse Mountain. The best view in town and the chicken wings or the seafood club are awesome. Especially great after surviving the Grouse Grind." – Uli Laue
