Photo tip for Feb. 1: A small depth of field separates the subject from the other girls in the picture and the angle of the girls heads give the readers eye a path through the image. Try using a small depth of field to isolate your subject and bring attention to them.
Photo tip for Jan. 31: The background becomes the focal point of the image as the photographer uses graffiti to juxtapose the man walking in front of the wall. Try using the background to play off something in the foreground.
Photo tip for Jan. 30: The photographer shoots through the tunnel to frame the woman bringing the readers eye straight to the subject. Try shooting though things to frame your subjects.
Photo tip for Jan. 26: Christian Richard saw this week's Photo Desk assignment on "winter" and took a walk through snow-covered Quebec, capturing this shot of a frozen waterfall. It was selected as the best submission on the theme. Why we chose it: While much of the country is experiencing an unseasonably mild winter, the frozen waterfall depicts a winter landscape we can all relate to. The photograph shows great details of the ice and snow and the waterfall appears as some white beast frozen in time.
