Firefighters climb down a building during a fire protection drill at a firefighter training base in Chongqing Municipality. WHY WE PICKED IT: The obvious patterns with the windows and firefighters make for an interesting image. You can find patterns anywhere and the trick to executing an interesting image is how much, or how little, to include in the frame.

A dog, covered with hoarfrost and snow, looks on during a snowfall outside Russia's Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. WHY WE PICKED IT: When shooting faces always try zooming in or out to see how best to compose the image. Getting rid of the background may work better, in some cases. Going tight on the eyes of this dog made for a dramatic portrait.
