One captivating image a day, the reason it was chosen and how you can shoot similar pictures.

Photo tip for May 18: The high angle gives a great view of the repeating pattern with the chairs as the lone man breaks it up and gives the image a point of focus. When you shoot a pattern try to find something that will act as a point of interest.

Photo tip for May 17: Using a very slow shutter the moving parts of the runners are blurred but their shoes are still visible where they touch the ground. Try keeping something in your frame sharp if you are trying to blur your subjects.

Photo tip for May 16: The upwards angle makes the boy look powerful and cleans up the background in this image. Try shooting upwards at your subjects to make them look strong or downwards to make them appear weak.

Photo tip for May 14: The spacing between the people is perfect for this silhouette. You have to be careful that the subjects are well defined to make silhouettes work.

Photo tip for May 11: Jeff Lucas was driving through downtown Vancouver when he saw the moon rising over Stanley Park. He blurred the his camera and captured this smattering of light and colour. It which was selected as the best submission on the theme of abstract photography. Why we chose it: Focusing on light, colour and shape were the goals for this assignment. In the winning photo, the colourful, blurred lights from the waterfront mix beautifully with the blues from the sky and water, making a great abstract image.
