Calgary's winter has been so mild that the Bow River still wasn't frozen on Jan. 17 when the high hit -29C (-36 wind chill). My face and fingers hurt after five minutes of shooting the steaming river.

This winter we had a few days of snow and a look from the window showed these Snow Buds in the plant which always bears yellow flower bunches.

I awoke last week to find my backyard transformed into winter wonderland - a magical winter moment.

I snapped this shot of seagulls chilling on the partially frozen Bronte harbour in Oakville. I liked how they tucked their heads in their feathers to stay warm on this chilly January 16th morning.

Anna's hummingbirds have recently extended their winter range north to Victoria, thanks to climate change, and don't appreciate snow. Anna's is the only North American hummingbird with a red crown.
