After 32 years on the air, Saturday Night Live has given birth to some unforgettable characters.
Who can forget Eddie Murphy as Gumby or James Brown at his celebrity hot tub party ("Hot tub! Ha! Da! Ah, full of water!")
Dana Carvey may never live down his stint at the Church Lady ("Well, isn't that special?")
Recently, cast members Chris Parnell and Adam Samberg staked a claim to Internet immortality with their Lazy Sunday rap about going to see the film The Chronic-WHAT?-cles of Narnia.
So who's your favourite and why? Share your memories of SNL characters here.
We'll post some of the best below, so check back and remember to refresh your page.
Lemmy Nothor from BCN, Spain: Only John Belushi could keep us from going out on a Saturday Night ... and of course the occasional Frank Zappa appearences. Who else invited him? And then you had those magic times when John Belushi and Frank played together. (John, of course playing the Samurai sax player.)
Frank Svatousek from Oakville: The man who lives in a van down by the river by Chris Farley. The best skits are the ones where the cast in the skit start laughing themselves because the character is so funny. After watching SNL for years that one memorable moment stands out in my mind.
Cloudkill 101 from Canada: Favorite character Opera Man by Adam Sandler. Always made me laugh.
T P from Canada: My favorite was Dana Carvey's Grumpy Old Man.
Alberto Bayo from Canada: Jake and Elwood Blues were my favorites, and the 'Church lady'
Matthew Oldridge from Canada: Pretty much any Steve Martin ... Particularly the banjo/arrow through the head bit, and of course the Festrunk brothers. Theodoric the Medieval Barber is a bit dated, but still ok.
Terry Terry from Brantford, Canada: I haven't watched SNL for years, probably because there was I time through the 80s when it was too painful to watch (like trying to watch the Air Farce), you could only feel sorry for the cast. In its best years with Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd , John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray -- almost everything they did was excellent, with the sole exception that John Belushi's Samurai character was only funny the first few times. He milked that long, long after it was dead.
More to come ....
