Atom Egoyan's father okay after passing out

It was a relieved-looked Atom Egoyan who showed up for his first media interview of the day Monday morning. Egoyan, of course, had been attending the world premiere at TIFF of his latest film, the erotic thriller Chloe, just a few hours earlier, but that wasn't the source of his anxiety and relief. No, it was his father, Joseph. He'd flown in from his home in Victoria B.C. to attend his son's premiere, then went with him to the after-party atop a parking garage in Yorkville (Chloe is set largely in Yorkville, Toronto's toniest shopping area).

"He likes to party," Egoyan said, noting his father is something of a TIFF regular. "But obviously a bit too much," Egoyan added, as his father collapsed at the parkade and had to be rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital. Egoyan and his wife, Arsinee Khanjian, spent the night at his bedside before the senior Egoyan was released early Monday morning. "He's fine," said Egoyan, indicating the episode was likely a combination of his father's age, excitement, fatigue and jet lag.
