B.C. Premier Christy Clark says she has "without condition" accepted a proposal for a televised one-on-one town hall meeting with B.C. NDP Leader Adrian Dix.

Ms. Clark said Tuesday she is hoping Mr. Dix will accept the proposal for the May 6 event, which would air on Global TV.

"If he wants to demonstrate leadership, he will accept," Ms. Clark told reporters Tuesday during a break in a B.C. Liberal caucus meeting.

She said talks continue on a more conventional debate with other party leaders and there is already agreement on a radio debate.

But she said only she and Mr. Dix are positioned to become premier, so the town hall would be a fair opportunity for voters to compare the pair.

But Mr. Dix says such a town hall would be unfair to other parties, CKNW radio reported Tuesday.

The event would come eight days before the May 14 provincial election.

"I'm going to be there. I hope I am not the only one," Ms. Clark said.

The NDP have been running far ahead of the Liberals in the polls, but Ms. Clark said the contrast might allow voters to make a comparison on issues that work in her favour.

Ms. Clark disclosed the proposal during a section of the caucus meeting the media was invited to observe.
