hot ticket: gallery hop vancouver

Artist Douglas Coupland sports his Roots designed t-shirt at his studio in West Vancouver, BC, June 9, 2010.

Take a walk on the artful side this weekend as some of Vancouver's brightest art luminaries host a flurry of free talks and tours at Gallery Hop Vancouver.

The days kicks off at 11 a.m. with a talk between author and art star Douglas Coupland and Canadian Art editor Richard Rhodes at Vancity Theatre.

From there, art lovers can choose from six tours, including a round of downtown galleries with Eastside Culture Crawl director Jeffrey Boone that includes stops at Matthew Monahan's new show at the CAG and Scott Massey's piece at the Canada Line station; a tour of Main Street areas galleries with renowned writer Michael Turner that makes a stop at Judy Radul's new show at Catriona Jeffries; a tour of South Granville galleries that includes a talk by artist Angela Grossmann, and many more.

Along the way, participants will get to meet artists, curators, authors, academics and more – and get their fill of fine works.

Always wondered about those public art pieces you see on your way to work downtown? Try the Public Art tour at 2.30 p.m. with curator, writer and City of Vancouver Public Art Committee vice-chair Rachel Lafo.

Gallery Hop Vancouver happens Saturday. All events are free. For more info, visit canadianart.ca.
