Residents of a high-rise apartment building in Burnaby, B.C. have been evacuated after what appears to be dynamite was found in a unit, radio station CNKW reports.
Police were conducting a drug search of an 11th floor unit in the 39-storey building in the 4200 block of Grange Street when the explosives were found.
The RCMP said they found about 10 sticks of dynamite with drugs and firearms.
Insp. Tim Shields said the dynamite had crystallized because it was old and has been burned in a nearby park.
He said it appears the suite was being used as a cocaine distribution centre.
Shields said there are two safes in the apartment that police need to inspect before residents are allowed to return to their homes.
"There are two safes inside the condo that we need to ensure don't also contain explosives before we remove them," Shields told radio station CNKW.
Some residents have gone to a local community centre to wait for the all-clear to return to their units.
