The football world has been fixated on Deflategate, but there is still one more small matter to be decided: the Super Bowl. And while most of the festivities are happening south of the 49th, there are plenty of parties planned here in B.C. – especially after the Seattle Seahawks' stunning come-from-behind win against the Green Bay Packers.

"At one point they were saying there was a 1-per-cent chance of them winning," says Peter Glavas, who runs a Seahawks Fans YVR Facebook page, and was at the NFC championship game in Seattle where thousands of fans left early because they had lost all hope. "Then we witnessed history. After the game, we were just in shock."

Now, the Seahawks are taking on the New England Patriots – with the proper football PSI – and experts are saying it's such a close matchup that predicting the winner is a veritable coin toss. But if you can't make it to Glendale, Ariz., for the big game, where best to watch?

The Vogue Theatre is putting on a Super Bowl Extravaganza, complete with giveaways, Pilsner tallboys and stadium food, including hot dogs and peanuts, and admission is free (doors at 2:30 p.m., voguetheatre.com).

The Rio Theatre at Commercial and Broadway is also playing host to a free screening with local commentators, live burlesque and plenty of suds (2 p.m., riotheatre.ca), while the River Rock's festivities include a tailgate buffet featuring five football food groups – chicken wings, pizza, bratwurst, chili and unlimited popcorn – and all the action on a 40-foot screen (1:30 p.m., riverrock.com).

Looking for something on a slightly smaller scale? Mr. Glavas will be joining Seahawk fans at the Blackbird Public House and Oyster Bar, where they'll find a tailgate menu, giveaways and the chance to win beer for a year.

Other top spots include The Butcher & Bullock on Pender; Library Square on Georgia; a Super Bowl Sunday Pig Roast at The Imperial on Main; cheap bevvies and a draw at Doolin's Irish Pub on Nelson for a trip to next year's Super Bowl; 12 big screens at St. Augustine's on Commercial; and The Charles Bar at Woodward's, to name a few.

"Now, as a fan, it's just a waiting game. I'm staying positive, and trying not to get too excited or too worried and just enjoy the moment," says Mr. Glavas, who predicts a tight game for the first half, then a win by the Seahawks. "These are both really good teams, and it should be a really good game. And that's all we can hope for."
