B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office has taken over an investigation into the death of a man who was jolted by a police taser in Vancouver Tuesday.

The office says police were responding to a report of an agitated man armed with a knife who was threatening to hurt himself.

It says the man suffered self-inflicted injuries, while police also used a taser to try to control him.

He was taken to hospital but died. Two teams of investigators from the IIO are examining the incident. The name of the victim has not been released.
