A man who thrust a pool cue through the eye of a fellow student at a nightclub in Kamloops, B.C., causing a brain injury, has been found guilty.
Outside court, a tearful Yousef Almotairi blamed his lawyer for the decision.
B.C. Supreme Court Judge Richard Goepel rejected Almotairi's testimony that his memory failed at the precise moment of the attack last November.
Goepel says the 27-year-old Saudi Arabian international student at Thompson Rivers University intended to harm the victim.
But Almotairi's lawyer, Michelle Stanford, argued a reflex action led her client to strike after he was punched in the face.
A date for sentencing will be set next Tuesday in connection with the assault that left 28-year-old Abdulaziz Alhedaib partially paralyzed on the left side of his body after he spent six months in hospital.
