A woman from Surrey, B.C., is in custody in the United States on child sex charges after an undercover sting allegedly revealed a plan to meet with a man to have sex with his children.
Theresa Louise Goddard, 45, was arrested on June 26 at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., after flying in from Surrey, where she worked in a lumber mill.
According to an affidavit filed in a Virginia district court, a Department of Homeland Security officer working undercover on a website dedicated to "various taboo subjects" responded on June 3 to a post from someone with the username "pervstepmom" who was looking to start "an incest family."
The affidavit details e-mail correspondence between the undercover officer and a woman who posted the message. The officer wrote about a fictitious family, describing himself as a single father with two children, a 10-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy.
The affidavit says the officer and the woman had video conversations over Skype, and the woman e-mailed sexually explicit photos of herself, and that she offered to travel to Virginia and described plans for graphic sex scenarios with the children.
Ms. Goddard was arrested in the luggage carousel area of Dulles International Airport after meeting with the officer. The affidavit says she told investigators she was coming to meet the officer, but had never talked about having sex with his children.
According to The Washington Post, Ms. Goddard appeared in court on June 28 and silently shook her head when asked whether she could afford a lawyer. She is charged with attempting to "persuade, induce, entice, and coerce" an underage individual to engage in sexual activity.
