Quiksilver's Showdown Over the City

Watch professional snowboarders go flying off jumps as high as houses at Quiksilver's Showdown Over the City, a favourite spring boarding event that draws brave souls from across the continent.

The Pro Showdown kicks off at noon, when top boarders from the pro circuit as well as hopeful amateurs will vie for the $20,000 purse by catching huge air and showing off their best twists and flips – all with stunning views of the city as a backdrop.

This year organizers have also added a Photo Showdown so shutterbugs can capture those amazing leaps – then compete for the chance to win prizes and get their pics published on SnowboardCanada.com.

Don't know your Wild Cats from your Misty Flips? Not to worry: the event comes with outdoor beer gardens, barbecues, live DJs and plenty of schwag – as well as an after-party where you can enjoy DJs and dancing, and rub elbows with the competitors.

"There are awesome professional riders coming and the jumps are huge, but it really is for the spectators," says Grouse Mountain spokesperson Sarah Lusk. "It's more like an on-mountain spring party."

The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City happens Saturday atop Grouse Mountain (grousemountain.com).
