Bees: Scoot down to the Homesteader's Emporium for a hands-on crash course on keeping native Mason bees in your garden with master gardener/beekeeper Brian Campbell. Not only will he school participants on the basics of bee physiology, which pests and diseases to watch out for, how to manage nests and collect and store cocoons, but also how to best design a bee-friendly garden.

Explore: Wander the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, and spend some time focusing on the new photographic exhibition, Shutterbug. Amateur photographer and insect enthusiast Ian Lane donated more than 10,000 slides to the Spencer Entomological Collection, and this show is a curation of his most spectacular works. He was particularly besotted by moths and dragonflies, so expect to see some beautiful creatures and pick up some insect-related knowledge. Shutterbug runs until Sept. 6.

Hero: Vancouverite David Suzuki enters his 80th year this month. Hit up Hot Art Wet City for a show of drawings, paintings and collages depicting the man and his vision. Bonus: Arrive to the opening reception dressed as Mr. Suzuki and you'll get a free copy of his autobiography and/or a copy of his chapbook featuring excerpts from his coming release, Letters to my Grandchildren.

Listen: Cellist Steven Isserlis and Robert Levin (on pianoforte) take the stage at the Vancouver Playhouse to perform all of Beethoven's works for cello and keyboard. The three-day event covers everything by the German composer with multiple performances as well as an afternoon lecture.
