Tinhorn Creek Oldfield Series 2Bench Rosé 2011, BC VQA Okanagan Valley $22.99

"This is a manly rosé because it's dry," says Andrew Moon, the transplanted Aussie viticulturist at Tinhorn Creek. Winemaker Sandra Oldfield agrees. "This cabernet franc doesn't have a character of tutti-frutti – it has more savouriness than many rosés, but still has enticing strawberry flavours." Its surprisingly pale shade of pink (akin to fading cherry blossoms) reveals nothing about this rosé's hidden strengths: structure, elegance and great acidity, which combine to offer unlimited food pairing combinations.

Check it out with hors d'oeuvre, grilled seafood and chicken, fish soups, Portobello mushrooms and soft goat cheeses. Available in restaurants and online at tinhorn.com.
