A 55-year-old Metro Vancouver woman is dead and an elderly man in Delta, B.C., is recovering from serious injuries after both were hit by vehicles in separate accidents less than 12 hours apart.

Police in New Westminster, B.C., say the 55-year-old woman died after being hit by a pickup truck as she crossed a street on her motorized scooter at about 10:30 last night in the Vancouver suburb.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and investigators say alcohol is not believed to be a factor and no charges have yet been laid.

Meanwhile, Delta Police are searching for the driver of a smaller truck, possibly a Ford Ranger, after a man was hit while crossing in a marked crosswalk at on a busy Delta street at about 7 a.m. Thursday morning.

The victim, described only as elderly, is being treated for what Delta officers say are serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the pickup may have front-end damage and they are appealing for the driver to come forward.
