Alberta cancels plan to redesign licence plates

Edmonton— From Thursday's Globe and Mail

The Alberta government, which is coping with collapsing energy revenues, has postponed an expensive plan to redesign the province's licence plates.

It "doesn't make sense" to commit millions of dollars to the program, Service Alberta Minister Heather Klimchuk said yesterday.

The province's licence plate, which reads "Wild Rose Country," has been in place since 1983. In recent months, Alberta residents have proposed several new slogans for a revamped licence plate, including "Strong and Free", "Big Oil Country", and "Awesome Alberta."
