Woman charged as accessory to Medicine Hat murders pleads guilty to lesser charges

Kacy Lancaster given a one-year conditional sentence after pleading guilty to obstructing police officer in case of 12-year-old girl and boyfriend who murdered parents, brother

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. The Canadian Press

A woman accused of helping an Alberta man and his 12-year-old girlfriend after they murdered the girl's parents and little brother has pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

Kacy Lancaster had been charged with being an accessory after the fact to the April 2006 murders in Medicine Hat, Alta.

But she has instead pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer and been handed a one-year conditional sentence.

Ms. Lancaster told police she was giving an acquaintance a lift home to Leader, Sask., when she asked Jeremy Steinke and the girl if they wanted to come along.

She said she had no idea she was harbouring two murder suspects.

Mr. Steinke and the girl were each found guilty in separate trials of first-degree murder.
