Fire crews are starting to get a handle on three forest fires burning in southeast B.C.
The largest remains the Springer Creek fire near Slocan, which covers 28 square kilometres and has forced the evacuation of about 30 homes.
The fire is now 40 per cent contained as crews mop up the south, west and north flanks of the blaze, which is burning in difficult terrain.
The Hamil Creek fire near Argenta, where several people are on evacuation alert, is also 40 per cent contained and covers 15 square kilometres.
The fire is burning away from homes and other building and fire guards are in place.
The Arrow Lake-Penstock fire north of Needles is 50 per cent contained at five square kilometres and while an evacuation alert is also in place, no homes are immediately threatened.
