Boy, 8, drowns near Owen Sound Add to ...

An 8-year-old boy has drowned in Williams Lake in Chatsworth Township, about 20 kilometres south of Owen Sound.

Grey County OPP say they received a report early Saturday evening that a child had gone missing after being seen in the lake’s public swimming area, and that local residents were searching for him.

They say the boy was unresponsive when he was found just before 7 p.m. in shallow water a few metres from shore.

Police say emergency services personnel tried, but were unable to revive the him.

The boy, identified as eight year old Dakota Flood from Owen Sound, was taken to Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre in Owen Sound where he was pronounced dead.

Police say they’re continuing to investigate, but do not suspect foul play.
