RCMP investigate spate of fires including one at Robert Pickton’s farm

Vancouver— The Canadian Press

The RCMP are continuing their investigation into several fires in the Vancouver area, including one at serial killer Robert Pickton's farm, and say they may have added another to the list.

Fire crews were called Friday night to a fire in some trailers on the property belonging to Mr. Pickton and his family.

They later responded to two more fires nearby, including one in a garage and another at a home that was completely destroyed, though no one was hurt.

RCMP Sgt. Allan Lai says investigators are also looking into whether a small fire involving garbage cans at a local elementary school is related.

Sgt. Lai says it's too early to tell what started the fires or to confirm whether they're all linked, but arson investigators consider them suspicious because there were so many in such a short time period.

Mr. Pickton's Port Coquitlam farm was the scene of a massive search following his 2002 arrest, which uncovered the remains or DNA of 33 women on the property.

Mr. Pickton was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder, though he bragged to police that he killed as many as 49.
