A long-time Halifax bakery that employed 105 people is closing down.

Canada Bread Company announced yesterday it is moving production to its other bakeries in New Brunswick.

The operation produces bread and English muffins under the Ben's, Dempster's, Villaggio and private label brands.

The subsidiary of Mexico's Grupo Bimbo will begin winding down the Halifax operation in June and close completely in November.

Most production will be consolidated at Canada Bread's bakeries in Moncton and Woodstock, New Brunswick, with 35 jobs being created at the two facilities.

The company says affected employees will receive severance packages as well as counselling and ongoing outplacement services and workshops.
