Hours after Egyptians took to the streets by the thousands Friday, Canadians are set to demonstrate their support.
Demonstrators plan to gather at the Egyptian embassy at 454 Laurier Ave. in Ottawa at 1:30 p.m., in what organizers say will be a peaceful rally.
In Montreal, protesters are planning to converge on the Egyptian consulate, at 1000 Rue de la Gauchetiere Ouest, at the same time as the Ottawa protests.
Egyptians in the Toronto area who cannot reach the embassy in Ottawa are holding a protest at Dundas Square downtown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In an announcement for the three protests, organizers called for demonstrators to bring flags and asked for both members of the Egyptian community and human-rights supporters to rally in favour of democracy.
Further demonstrations were being planned for Saturday across the country. In Edmonton, a rally for democracy in Egypt is scheduled for noon at Winston Churchill Square, near city hall. Organizers in Vancouver are planning a rally in support of protesters in both Tunisia and Egypt, set for 1 p.m. outside the downtown public library at Robson and Homer streets.
