Richard Oland in 2010. Oland's son, Dennis, was charged with murder in Richard's July 2011 death in November 2013.

The case of Dennis Oland, charged with second-degree murder in the death of his father Richard, has been adjourned until early next year.

Dennis Oland appeared briefly in provincial court today in Saint John to set dates for a preliminary hearing, but his lawyer was granted an adjournment until Jan. 21.

Outside court, Gary Miller said he received a lot of documents Monday from the Crown and needs time to review them before proceeding.

Richard Oland was found dead in his Saint John office on July 7, 2011.

The 69-year-old was a well-known businessman and member of the Order of Canada.

He was also a member of the family that owns Moosehead Breweries, but left the company in the 1980s and went on to work in the trucking business and at the Saint John Shipbuilding and Drydock Co.

Dennis Oland was granted bail Monday, days after he was charged.
