A deer who took an accidental dip in a Whitby, Ont., pool has been returned to her habitat.

Police say they were called just after 8 a.m. about a deer that had wandered into a backyard.

They say that once animal control officers arrived, police slowly went into the yard — but the deer got spooked and jumped over a fence, landing in the neighbour's pool.

Police say they were able to tranquilize the deer while it was still in the water, and used a pool skimmer to make sure it stayed in the shallow end while the drug took effect.

They say the deer was removed from the water, driven north and released.
