Four teenaged boys in northern Alberta were killed and a fifth has critical injuries after a pickup hit their car.

Police say the collision happened near Grande Prairie just after midnight.

Two 16-year-old boys and two 15-year-old boys were killed, while another 15-year-old boy is in an Edmonton-area hospital.

Police say the pickup fled the scene.

A 21-year-old man was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.
