A man is in custody in Halifax after citizens called police to report spotting a man wearing fatigues and carrying at least one gun in a neighbourhood, providing a chilling reminder of the Moncton shootings.
Halifax police arrested the man about an hour after two people noticed a suspicious man walking on a path near the end of a street in Clayton Park. They said he was "carrying what appeared to be a number of assault rifles that have since been determined to be pellet guns."
Police sent multiple units to the area, including an emergency response team and a canine unit, and closed Westridge Drive to traffic.
On June 4, Justin Bourque killed three RCMP officers and wounded two others in Moncton after leaving his home wearing military fatigues and carrying guns. He pleaded guilty to the charges earlier this month.
