Police in Halifax say human remains found along a hiking trail earlier this month have been identified.

The province's medical examiner has determined the remains are those of Ray Peter O'Connell.

Police say O'Connell was reported missing in June, 2004 when he was 32-years-old.

They say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The remains were found May 6 near Fox Lake.

The lake is about a kilometre west of Highway 102 near the Sherwood Heights neighbourhood.
