Police say a man has been arrested after a fire destroyed the century-old Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club building on Sydney’s waterfront.
Firefighters responded to a blaze at the club Friday afternoon and the building was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived.
The mostly wooden structure burned quickly due to its age and construction.
There were no injuries, and the fire marshal is investigating.
Cape Breton Regional Police say 34-year-old Derek Joseph Harris, of Sydney, faces charges of arson and breach of probation.
He is being held in custody and will appear on court in court Monday for a bail hearing.
