Police have identified a father and his son who were found dead Wednesday evening in a home in rural Prince Edward Island.

The RCMP say they found the bodies of 68-year-old Herbert Brent McGuigan and 39-year-old Brendon Patrick McGuigan, both of St. Mary's Road near Montague, at the home.

Investigators say they responded to a call at the home at about 9:15 p.m., but have declined to provide further details about the case including how the men died.

Reverend Gerard Chaisson says about 150 families who live in the area are struggling with the news. The Roman Catholic priest says it has created a deep sadness and left a sense of shock in the small community.

Police say autopsies are being conducted.

Alfred Guy Vuozzo of the Montague area has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

The 46-year-old man was brought before a justice of the peace in Georgetown provincial court on Thursday evening after being arrested earlier in the day without incident.

He has been remanded into custody until a court appearance scheduled for next week.
