A 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after an intercity bus driver was stabbed in northwestern New Brunswick.

The Mounties say the driver was attacked late Wednesday before the bus pulled into a parking lot of restaurant in Perth-Andover.

Passengers in the bus approached two RCMP officers in the diner, who quickly arrested the suspect.

The driver was taken to hospital in Perth-Andover.

Ryan Jason Hickey of Moncton remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Grand Falls provincial court on Monday.
