Nova Scotia's education minister says she's disappointed with a call by the province's teacher's union for her resignation over her handling of budget cuts.

Ramona Jennex says she dedicated 30 years of her life as a classroom teacher prior to entering politics, and she isn't about to resign.

Ms. Jennex is backed by Premier Darrell Dexter who says the union's call isn't worthy of comment.

The union's demand is the latest development in a simmering dispute that flared after the Chignecto-Central school board announced it was laying off all of its librarians in response to budget cuts.

Meanwhile, Ms. Jennex also announced senior Treasury Board adviser Doug Stewart will immediately begin a review of the budget at the board.

He is expected to report back to the government with recommendations within the next two weeks.

The review was ordered after the board announced last week that it would cut 41 librarian positions as it struggles with a 6.5 million dollar shortfall.

The government says the cuts are unacceptable.
