Nasty weather is expected in much of Ontario today.

Environment Canada has issued weather warnings calling for freezing rain or snow from Cornwall to Windsor.

The agency says an intensifying low over Arkansas is heading towards southern parts of the province, bringing heavy snow to the area east of Lake Huron by this afternoon.

It says that heavy snow is expected to head east of Georgian Bay by this evening and hit the Nickel Belt before moving on to Quebec.

"Significant" freezing rain is forecast in eastern Ontario overnight, while areas north of lakes Erie and Ontario – including Toronto – could see a few hours of it this evening.

Wind chill warnings have also been issued for parts of northwestern Ontario, including Dryden and Kenora.

Environment Canada is urging caution on the roads as the snow and ice could lead to treacherous travel conditions.
