Police in Cornwall, Ont., say they've reopened a section of the Eastern Ontario city that was cordoned off while they negotiated with an assault suspect barricaded in a home.

Police say they were called early Monday morning to investigate an alleged assault at a home (on Prince Albert Street).

It's alleged a 22-year-old man was slashed with a knife and threatened in the incident around 1 a.m.

The Cornwall police emergency response team and negotiators were called in during the incident and residents were asked to stay away from the area or remain in their homes.

Police say a 44-year-old man was arrested without incident late Monday afternoon after a warrant was received allowing the emergency response team to enter the home.

Edward Hall of Cornwall Island is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and threats to life.
