Saskatchewan toddler killed in dog attack Add to ...

Mounties say a three-year-old girl has died after she was attacked by a dog in west-central Saskatchewan.

RCMP got an emergency call Sunday night that a young child had been injured by dogs on the Mosquito First Nation, about 35 kilometres south of the Battlefords.

Police say the little girl suffered substantial injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at hospital in North Battleford.

An investigation found that the child had wandered to a nearby yard area where she encountered two dogs and then the attack happened.

The dogs were destroyed by the owner shortly after the incident and no criminal charges are being considered.

There have been concerns in the past about wild dogs on some northern First Nation communities, but RCMP say the Mosquito First Nation hasn't had problems with dogs.
