A Quebec provincial police officer has died from injuries sustained during a speed trap operation north of Montreal.

Donovan Lagrange, 33, was struck on the side of a highway Saturday afternoon while walking back to his own vehicle after pulling over a car.

A spokesman for the force says the officer was taken to a nearby hospital where he died late Saturday.

The incident happened near Bois-des-Filion, about 25 kilometres from Montreal.

The province introduced a move-over law this summer that requires drivers to slow down and provide more room for emergency vehicles.

Lagrange is the second Quebec provincial police officer to die on the roads over the last 10 days.

A 23-year-old officer crashed into two trees northeast of Montreal on Sept. 27 as she was responding to a call about domestic violence.
