A rotting whale that was giving off a foul odour in a Cape Breton community has been towed away from the Strait of Canso.
Officials with Nova Scotia's Natural Resources Department say the 15-metre fin whale was hauled away from Port Hastings today.
The 15-metre whale was first seen last Thursday, setting off a discussion between Ottawa, the province and the municipal government over who was responsible for removing it.
Tourism Minister Michel Samson, the member for Cape Breton-Richmond, said Wednesday that the Natural Resources Department would take care of the removal.
Locals said the whale was emitting a stink in the area and needed to go.
