Sasquatch a hoser? Add to ...

A B.C. town has gone ape over a statue of a sasquatch toting a case of locally brewed beer.

At issue in the community of Creston is a three-metre bronze of the legendary hairy beast.

Mayor Joe Snopek says the statue created some controversy, with many residents opposed to the town council footing half the $40,000 cost..

He said some people even worried it would turn all the kids into alcoholics.

After the uproar, a private contractor agreed to foot the town's half, with the Columbia Brewing Company picking up the rest.

Mr. Snopek The said the town looked at the project as an economic development, but because the sasquatch is lugging around the case of Kokanee beer, it would be considered a business subsidy - in violation of the Municipal Act.
