Buying Agents: Sue Johnson and Sarah Thompson, Dexter Realty

After showing her clients one- and two-bedroom condominiums around Vancouver, agent Sue Johnson realized what they really wanted was a home. To find her clients the perfect house, she took them outside of the city.

In Squamish, she was able to help them find a three-bedroom house on a 9,493-square-foot lot.

"Squamish offered them the opportunity to buy a house with land and privacy for the same amount as a one- or two-bedroom condominium in the city," Ms. Johnson says.

"It was a natural choice," she adds. Her clients are outdoor enthusiast with careers that are not tied to the city. But Squamish is located 45 minutes outside of Vancouver, so if their career paths change, they are a commutable distance from downtown Vancouver, the agent says.

Squamish has been nicknamed the outdoor recreation capital of Canada with handy access to skiing, mountain climbing and windsurfing.

This 1, 290-square-foot home is also close to schools and shopping, Ms. Johnson says, "and my clients love the sense of community that Squamish offers."

The house has an open floor plan with laminate flooring, an updated kitchen, recently replaced windows and eaves, and a heated slate bathroom floor.

"It is about finding the right lifestyle," Ms. Johnson says. "My clients love the surrounding trees and nature, which they would not have found in the city."
