Provincial police say all three people were killed when a float plane crashed in southern Georgian Bay.

Sgt. Dave Rektor says the plane hit the water near Griffith Island off Grey County Thursday afternoon.

Grey County OPP says the Cessna plane was in its final approach to land on Griffith Island when it crashed into the water, about 220 meters short of the runway.

Police say the victims are three men, aged 72, 52 and 45, from the Sudbury area.

Their names are being withheld until relatives are notified.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will have investigators at the crash scene on Friday to try to determine what caused the crash.
