The Supreme Court of Canada will hear the appeal of a woman found guilty of killing her three children.
Cathie Gauthier-Lachance was found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder by a jury and sentenced to life in prison without any chance of parole for 25 years.
The court heard during the trial that Gauthier-Lachance and her husband Marc Laliberte were in financial trouble and had formed a suicide pact.
A trial heard the children had been drugged and Ms. Gauthier had been found with her wrists slit when provincial police made the grim discovery on New Year's Day 2009 in Saguenay, Que.
Her lawyer argued that the judge gave the jury improper instructions on different points of law before they were sequestered.
As is usual, the high court gave no reasons for granting the leave to appeal application.
